Remove “no-follow” rel tag from wordpress

Since I put my wordpress in blog.webdirectory.si and am trying to help myself and others to promote my and theirs websites I needed to tweek my wordpress so comments don’t have “no-follow” attribute in theme no more.

I found interesting and helpfull plugin to do that. It was written by Cristian Mezei (www.seopedia.org) and installing and using it is very easy.

no-follow attribute plugin Install instructions:

  1. download remove_follow.7z (7-zip archive) or remove_follow.zip (zip archive)
  2. Open archive. Inside is a file remove_follow.php. Upload this file via ftp client or any other method to wp-content/plugins. After that login to wordpress admin panel and activate plugin in the Plugins section.

If you have usage of this please add link to this article so other people will be able to use this plugin.

In addition I found great webpage with ultimate list of no-follow scripts.

Quote from author Andy Beard:

Wordpress by default, just like other blogging platforms, has automatically been adding the “nofollow” microformat extension to all links from user generated content such as comments and trackbacks. To support the growing rejection of NoFollow for blog comments, I have compiled this list of plugins that help you remove nofollow from your blog forever.

Besides that I also found interesting webpage on aboutresultsmarketing.com with no-follow article and martinwaiss.com no-follow article in german.

Removing the nofollow tag is a very smart idea. Dofollows get a lot more comments and visits. Although some of those comments are obvious spam, I think the benefits aoutwiegh the spam comments.

  2. Dekstop Computers | SNSFOX.com says:

I think the only one drawback here is the garbage comments, according to what my friends said before, his blog went cluttered by garbage comments after the second day that he dofollowed his blog. He received about a hundred garbage comments, although he said that one advantage he Likes is the immediate increased in traffic, pagerank as well as click on his adsense.

I made my blog, Architecture with a capital A, dofollow two weeks ago and despite listign it in most of the major follow directories, there has been only a modest rise in visitors. Still its early days yet and I’ve become a committed dofollow blogger. Any tips on how to get more follower?

I’ve been using DoFollow for sometime now and participated in all of the hype surrounding it by leaving comments on posts like this. I think it does build more of a community as encourages comments which is what we all like to see right?

dofollow comments on dofollow blogs makes a blog site more popular therefore more hits and unique visitors to the site. as long as there is a certain limit to the number of dofollow comments, i think it’s fine.

  24. china wholesale says:

I don’t like Wordpress even a little, but this is nice-looking in spite of that. Good work.

  25. Holliston MA Real Estate says:

Obviously as a do follow blog you will get more spamming but you will also have more traffic from people visiting your blog which is great. As long as the commenter adds something of value I don’t see what the big deal is with having your keywords as the link. I know some people get their panties in a bunch over it.

  26. Medifast Reviews says:

Yes your information is very helpful and thanx for the download link.

  27. Web Design Company says:

I love do follow blogs. It is good to know that many bloggers are using dofollow for blog comments. If it is nofollow many blog posts may not receive any comments.
So, dofollow increases comments for posts!

  28. Jimmy says:

Your right, do follow attracts a lot more spam but does encourage comments, however, I would say it encourages 1 off comments rather than the building of an actual community and loyal readership

  29. Indeed removing the nofollow in the comment URL is a great incentive for visitors to leave comments in your blog. Many people use nofollow as a way to discourage spammers.
But believe me the only thing that would discourage a potential spammer is forcing him to give up his time in exchange for whatever he’s trying to do. In any relathionship it’s give and take for both sides.
So keep on blogging. And if you ever need are more attractive blog, feel free to get in touch with me.
Leaving your blog theme to the default design will certainly reduce the stickyness despite your very informative articles.

Search engines often overlook what you might assume are some of the web’s best pages. Just think of the tools many designers use to make web pages exciting. Great illustrations, stunning photos, animation and emoting music. Throw them all onto your pages and the world’s most important web ’spiders’ might just crawl right past you.
