Well it’s a while now and I’m starting to get frustratet with WordPress Blog. I have some huge bots or people spamming comments in my blog. I suppose it is because I got nofollow tag removed so now I have problems with some users (IPs) posting spam comments.

I need to stop them so I decided to block some IP’s.

It as easy as that to block IP from posting comments in wordpress blog:

Login to Administration panel of WordPress blog

choose Settings tab

choose Discussion tab

in the “Comment Blacklist” list type IP’s you want to block (each line one IP)

Click Save changes

In firefox it looks like this:

Screenshot of Firefox Wordpress block IP for comments

Since today I wasn’t absolutelly sure how does TrackBack and Pinging work with WordPress blog. I searched over the internet and fount a great tutorial about wordpress “trackback function”. As I understand it is a great way to let other web blogs know you have a similar article on your blog and in article you link to him and he links to you. Great way of creating backlinks and also building relationships with other blogs.

The trackback tutorial is written by Teli Adlam and is a great resource you can use. Right now I will test trackBack function on his tutorial – let’s see if it really works as the article he wrote.

Since I put my wordpress in blog.webdirectory.si and am trying to help myself and others to promote my and theirs websites I needed to tweek my wordpress so comments don’t have “no-follow” attribute in theme no more.

I found interesting and helpfull plugin to do that. It was written by Cristian Mezei (www.seopedia.org) and installing and using it is very easy.

no-follow attribute plugin Install instructions:

download remove_follow.7z (7-zip archive) or remove_follow.zip (zip archive)

Open archive. Inside is a file remove_follow.php. Upload this file via ftp client or any other method to wp-content/plugins. After that login to wordpress admin panel and activate plugin in the Plugins section.

If you have usage of this please add link to this article so other people will be able to use this plugin.

In addition I found great webpage with ultimate list of no-follow scripts.

Quote from author Andy Beard:

Wordpress by default, just like other blogging platforms, has automatically been adding the “nofollow” microformat extension to all links from user generated content such as comments and trackbacks. To support the growing rejection of NoFollow for blog comments, I have compiled this list of plugins that help you remove nofollow from your blog forever.

Besides that I also found interesting webpage on aboutresultsmarketing.com with no-follow article and martinwaiss.com no-follow article in german.
